Campfire Steak and Potato Skillet
with camping season coming close to an end and my lovely husband working around rocanville we decided to move campgrounds, leaving the lake and into a beautiful, quiet campground in the valley. close to a cute creek down the hill perfect for fishing and swimming!
that all being said yesterday was long between packing up the camper, moving and then unpacking again and continuing to get everything set up to our preferences today.
this recipe is so easy and so quick i did it over a fire but it can be just as easily done on a stove stop or electric frying pan!!
INGREDIENTS
- 3 large potatoes
- 1 steak cooked to preference and cut into small pieces
- garlic powder, salt, and pepper
- 1/2 cup grated cheese (optional)
- 3TBSP canola oil
-1/3 cup BBQ sauce (optional)
DIRECTIONS
1) (electric pan or stove top)heat your pan on high heat. or (a cast iron) on the hottest part of your fire, once hot add oil and chopped potatoes, I cut my potatoes small so they cook quick but this is only my preference!
make sure to mix potatoes around often
2) about 5-10 into cooking the potatoes add garlic powder, salt and pepper, mix well. then add 1/2 of the BBQ sauce mix again and continue cooking, if using an electric pan or on stove top turn heat down to medium. if you are cooking on the fire find a spot on your grill where its cooler!
mixing your potatoes often.
3) once your potatoes are about 3/4 done add in your chopped onion and other 1/2 of BBQ sauce, and chopped steak pieces, mixing every 2 minutes until the onions and potatoes are cooked through.
4) either turn your heat up in your pan or find a hotter spot over fire and spread your grated cheese over top let melt and take off heat. let sit for 5 minutes and enjoy!
